Program Introduction

       

    Communication skills are an essential part of caregivers’ work and life. This course teaches students valuable inclusive interpersonal skills and provides them with a critical understanding of the communication process to enhance their professional and personal relationships.This course examines the impact of interpersonal relationships as experienced in family, business, and social groups. Topics include personal well-being, self-disclosure, conflict and anger management, models of interpersonal relationships, and the social exchange theory

             

Program Duration:100 hours in 25 weeks


Learning Objectives:                

           


Upon completion of this course the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

 

● Evaluate their own values, beliefs, and attitudes that influence ther interpersonal communications

● Understand the Basics of Interpersonal Communication in relation to identity, relationships, and effective communication

● Understanding the role of emotions in thinking, feeling, and communicating

● Explain the relationship between perception, self-concept, and communication

● Describe the characteristics of a competent communicator and the methods of improving language, non-verbal communication,and listening skils

● Identify the common stages of interpersonal relationships and the methods of improved relationship initiation, maintenance, and termination

● Explain the influence of gender and culture in the interpersonal communication process

● Describe the nature of conflict and explain the effectiveness of the various approaches to conflict management

● Identify personal and environmental factors that impede effective communication

● Evaluate personal listening styles and develop strategies to engage in active listening; express thoughts and feelings appropriately
