Private Home Caregiver Training was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.
This program will teach students a necessary set of skills to ensure they deliver impeccable service as professional caregivers. Not only will they be equipped with extensive knowledge on children’s development, but they will also be given practical instructions on dealing with various issues that may arise while caring for a child. On top of all that, the students will be taught how to effectively clean the house and maintain that cleanliness throughout the day. Students will also learn essential interpersonal and communication skills related to home child care focusing on useful expressions and vocabularies to assist them in their daily work.
Program Duration:250 hours
Learning Objectives:
This program gives the students the skills and occupational competencies necessary in the industry today based upon the professional curriculum. By the end of the program, graduates will have demonstrated the ability to plan and implement child and family centered learning that honors the uniqueness of each child and applies fundamental and current principles of child development.
● Provide healthy and safe environment for their clients;
● Endorse healthy activities for children;
● Ensure the family’s diet plan is nutritious;
● Deal with common health conditions that majority of kids demonstrate;
● Manage and prevent infections;
● Perform first medical aid in various life-threatening situations;
● Care for children with special needs;
● Knowingly choose appropriate cleaning agents for different rooms/surfaces of the house;
● Conduct daily/weekly/monthly maintenance of the house;
● Provide the necessary care for different types of furniture;
● Improve their English through language input and practice activities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing;
● Utilize key vocabularies and phrases in daily work settings and communicate related to Home Care;
● Understand the Basics of Interpersonal Communication in relation to identity, relationships, conflict resolution, and effective communication;
● Understand the role of emotions in thinking, feeling, and communicating;
● Understanding and applying nonverbal communication and active listening skills;
This program is not recognized by the BC Care & Community Health Worker Registry and that graduates are not eligible for registration as a registered Health Care Assistant.
